Have You Kept This Festival?

In just a few short weeks the Church of God will once again be keeping the Feast of Tabernacles. This year it will be observed October 14 thru the 20th. This annual Feast incorporates seven days of opportunity to be refreshed in the knowledge of God’s plan as it finally culminates in two of the most awesome events for all of humanity.

The first event involves the beginning of the millennial reign of Jesus Christ on the earth. The Feast of Tabernacles pictures the time when all the people of the world will have an opportunity at last to learn about the true God and learn the true way to salvation. For one thousand years mankind will be blessed to have a righteous government ruling on the earth; and as the years pass by, more and more of the peoples of the earth will come under that government and reap the blessings God desires for them.

Finally, when the thousand years are ended, there will be another Great Day to celebrate. This day, an 8th day (this year falling on October 21st), is often incorporated into the celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles because it follows immediately after it, but it is actually a separate festival called the Last Great Day. This festival is necessary because at the end of the millennium, there are still millions and yes, even billions of people who have not yet learned about the Kingdom of God. Those are all the people who ever lived on the earth who did not have opportunity to live under the righteous government of God. For them, the time of entering the kingdom will come with a great resurrection that occurs at the end of the millennium that will bring them from their graves to life again. Yes, they will live again, not in heaven as some think, but here on the earth, as physical human beings being given an opportunity to learn and to live the way of the one true God.

These two festivals stand back to back in God’s plan because they are the feasts that populate the kingdom of God with citizens from every walk of life, who will finally have opportunity to gain access to the kingdom for all eternity. These two feasts are great celebrations, but only a relative few know about them today.

What do you know about these great festivals? Like so many in the world, you may never have heard of them. If you are a Christian, that is really very strange since these festivals are talked about in the Bible quite a lot. Jesus Christ even attended these festivals and spoke to the people at the feasts, teaching them lessons about the kingdom. Approximately one-fifth of the book of John is about Christ’s attendance at the Feast of Tabernacles, his last before he was crucified. In fact, his very gospel was a gospel about the coming kingdom of God. It was one he was eager to share because it pointed to his return to the earth almost 2000 years from the time he taught his disciples about it. He died on the cross with the certain knowledge he would return again to set up his Father’s kingdom on the earth, yet even those people of Jewish nationality who took part in his crucifixion had no comprehension about the meaning of the festival they kept year after year. Only those Jesus personally taught really understood, and it was these people who taught these festivals and their meaning to the church that Jesus founded.

As stated earlier, the Church of God will once again celebrate these great feasts in October. It will be the best Feast ever because it brings us one year closer to the return of Jesus Christ. Members will come together from all over the world to follow God’s admonition to keep His feasts at the place He designates. It is a wonderful time of focused learning about God and his plan for man – a time of celebration, of fellowship and new experiences.
