Abomination of Desolation

Jerusalem is the most important city in the world and the nexus of one of the most significant end-time events described in your Bible. Holy to Christians, Jews and Muslims alike, this fascinating city has been ravaged by 30 centuries of struggle and warfare. Jews, Christians and Muslims, all three have battled for its possession. We know from prophecy that this city will once again be the focus of world attention just a few years before Christ returns—and that an Abomination of unspeakable revulsion will desolate a Holy Place within the environs of the city (Matthew 24:15).

EYE ON EUROPE

	European Economic Independence

The last time Europe had a chance to prove to the world that it was indeed its own economic power, separate and unconnected to the U.S., was in the year 2000. At that time the dot com bubble was busting in a spectacular way and fears that the U.S. recession would roll across the Atlantic into Europe were abundant. The then head of the European Central Bank, Wim Duisenberg, confidently declared Europe's economic independence by stating that the U.S.'s troubles would not affect the more "stable" European economies. Soon thereafter the European Union dove into recession.

MORAL COMPASS

	A Timeless Lesson

As the night wore on, the great king and his court ate and drank while slaves played music and danced amidst the lively crowd. The banquet hall was filled with noblemen and women talking, laughing, and embracing in good cheer. The elaborate cups the celebrants were given to drink from were made of beautifully ornate silver, taken a generation earlier from the Temple of the God of Israel in Jerusalem. As the guests drank from their wine-filled goblets, they raised the treasures from the temple of God in salute to the bronze and gold, pagan idols that stood motionless, cold and silent. As more wine was poured, the mood of the banqueters rose, eventually erupting into a drunken revelry. Suddenly, all music stopped, and in its place shrieks and gasps filled the room that only moments ago had been filled with festivity. While people blinked, rubbing their eyes in disbelief, perhaps thinking the wine was playing a mean trick on them, the ghostly fingers of a man’s hand appeared, writing something on a wall close to the king. As the king himself trembled, his knees knocking together, the fingers continued to scrawl a message that read MENE MENE TEKEL UPHARSIN………

	Proxy War--Saudi Arabia and Iran

To think that Iran wants to see stability in the Middle East is sheer fantasy. Yet there is a considerable amount of pressure on the Bush administration to engage Iran in the hope that they may help calm the violence in Iraq. The hard truth, a truth that many diplomats and politicians persistently ignore, is that Iran has a paramount interest in seeing absolute chaos in Iraq, at least in the short term. If Iran does help America in Iraq, you can count on the United States paying Tehran a high price for their aid, such as President Bush backing off on his rhetoric that the U.S. will not tolerate a nuclear Iran.
